Is Aphonium a generative artwork? A playable musical instrument? A soothing meditation aid or beautiful timepiece? Aphonium is all these things, yet so much more. But it's true allure comes from what you make of it, and it's indefinable essence.

Avant-garde in nature, Aphonium employs cutting edge computer generated music and visuals to create stunningly beautiful, lush visual and sonic environments.

Using it's sophisticated A.I. music engine and synthesizer, Aphonium produces music containing complex rhythmic patterns, while gorgeous shapes dance, squirm and pulsate in time to the music.

Containing 17 diverse moods to explore, ranging from the zen like Japanese Seashore to the mysterious The Deep - there's one for each of your daily moods. Occasionally you may recognize familiar themes, but you'll never experience the same thing twice.

And with 4 unique modes, you can decide whether to chill-out and have Aphonium create the composition using the Explore and Immerse modes, or take control yourself by using the Compose and Conduct modes to play Aphonium as a musical instrument.

Or just leave Aphonium in your dock for an ever evolving, wondrous clock.

And if you'd like even more variety, we've got you covered. Create you own moods using the very same tools we used to build the default moods.

Everything in a mood is editable, from it's visual description, to it's sonic quality. Edit music styles, select from a huge range of instruments, BPM, scales, shapes, colors, backgrounds and much, much more.

Put a little wonder in your life - try Aphonium!

Don't worry...

I was afraid to buy the app with all of the negative reviews but I really do believe it's better than Bloom with more options to choose from. The sounds are really beautiful and interesting and I don't regret this purchase at all. If you are a lover of music I say go for it, you'll be happy with the app.

Omar the cat is entranced

Omar the cat is entranced.

Would suggest a pet (cat) option, given how attractive cats find it.

Might consist of selectable option that, once selected, hides/disables current single-touch buttons until such time as a simultaneous dual-press at two diagonally opposite corners is done. That would protect against being interrupted if the cat touches single button.

There are a few considerations:
- What does the iPad see a cat laying atop a significant portion or all of the screen as..... repeating simultaneous multi-touches? How best deal with it (actually does OK now)? Does such input overload the simulation? Does it drive battery consumption up unreasonably?

Basically, all that is probably needed is the single touch button lockout.

an interesting ambient sound/music generator

I've had Emergence (the ipod app) since it came out and have enjoyed it very much. Aphonium is similar but contains better sound quality. I like the ability to work with the sounds to doodle out some music on my own and still have the random element of ambient music. It's not like Bloom or Zen Sound which make you sound like a musician with everything in tune but it offers more choices and interesting visuals unavailable on the others. There are a large variety of sounds/instruments to choose from when blending together your masterpiece. As far as ambient music generation, I don't think there is another app that offers as much variety as this. Very organic imagery, like looking into a microscope. Overall I find it to be a pleasant experience.
